World Polio Day: Plymouth Rotary Fights to End Polio Worldwide

In honor of World Polio Day, which is widely recognized on Oct. 24, Plymouth Rotary is striving to make a difference as part of Rotary’s 27-year mission to eradicate the crippling childhood disease polio. Plymouth Rotary has been raising funds locally toward the effort, and Chapter President Dustin Turicik has personally pledged matching funds to help fuel awareness.

Don Pohlman, President of the Plymouth Rotary Club along with Teresa Van Horn, Van Horn Automotive Group, recently presented Generations and St. John the Baptist School each with a $2,000 contribution. The funds donated were raised from the Rotary Roast event held in November, featuring Van Horn, and are part of the Plymouth Rotary Club’s commitment to supporting community projects and organizations.

The Plymouth Rotary Club will host the 2014 Rotary Roast event featuring Teresa Van Horn on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at The Osthoff, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
 
This popular event will begin with a social hour at 5:30 pm and the dinner at 6:30 pm. The roast and a silent auction will follow. Van Horn has agreed to allow her family and friends to do the honors of providing attendees with an evening full of laughs that are sure to be remembered. The roasters for the evening are Joann Van Horn Wieland, Chuck Van Horn, Jenny Krebsbach and 
Bruce Vreeke.

Another successful brat fry was held. The brat fry at Piggly Wiggly was to raise money for new defibulators for the Plymouth Police Dept. A big thank you goes out to all who worked the stand and to those who made donations but especialy to those who bought some brats! A great Changing of the Guard was held on June 26, 2013 at The Roadside Restaurant in Plymouth. The "Rotarian of the Year" award was presented to Jack Fernsler. Congrats Jack! Year End Awards were also distributed. "Service Above Self" awards were presented to Lisa Hurley, Ron Navis and Dustin Turicik.  Way to go guys!  Perfect Attendance was acheived by Jack Fernsler, Lisa Hurley, Chris Merklein, Ron Navis, Don Pohlman, Karen White and Dustin Turicik.
